Gleanwork Software Engineer role at Gleanwork focused on improving developer productivity by designing and optimizing build systems and CI/CD pipelines. The role involves enabling engineers to leverage AI-powered coding tools.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a Software Engineer, Developer Productivity to shape the way our engineers build, test, and ship software. Our codebase is large and multi-language, powered by Bazel, with pipelines running on GitHub Actions and cloud remote execution.
Own and evolve a multi-language build system, improving hermeticity, reproducibility, dependency management, and developer usability.
Design and operate CI/CD infrastructure that makes builds and tests faster, more reliable, and more cost-efficient at scale.
Diagnose and eliminate sources of CI friction, including flaky tests, slow feedback loops, and difficult local development workflows.
Build developer tools that improve onboarding, debugging, code review, and everyday engineering productivity.
Lead practical adoption of AI coding assistants and agentic workflows, measuring usage and impact rather than simply introducing new tools.
Partner with engineers across the company to identify bottlenecks, prioritize improvements, and demonstrate measurable results.
Qualification
Meaningful ownership of build systems
Required
Strong software engineering background in Java, Go, Python, or a similar language.
Meaningful ownership of build systems, CI/CD infrastructure, or developer productivity tooling. Bazel experience is strongly preferred.
Experience operating distributed build or test environments, with familiarity in Kubernetes or cloud infrastructure.
Strong debugging skills and a track record of improving engineering workflows.
Experience enabling AI developer tools is a plus, particularly when paired with evidence of adoption or productivity impact.
This role is hybrid (4 days a week in our Mountain View office)
